more 7 seconds

I’ve been making more and more 7 second impressions using both a graflex D and an old sears Delmar box camera. I set the camera on a tripod or hand hold it and count to 7.

the film is developed in home brew caffenol made with sumatran coffee beans roasted in a wok on the driveway. I add other things to the caffenol when it’s being made waterlogged washing soda and vitamin c until it foams.

recently I returned back to a few places I have visited over the years that are going through physical changes. one was the site of an ice cream stand (carvel) which was a fish store and eventually a hamburger joint/bar, there’s nothing there now after the site was demolished. the other was a long strip of land that had retail structures on it, as well as city owned things for the local airport and water company. now it’s vacant and overgrown with weeds and pavement.

I’ve also been stopping on the side of the road when something grabs me

if you’d like to see this work in person or in small book form, I will be participating in an open studios with artists throughout RI called Open Studio Design Week the first week of September and have tangible images.

I am a Freelance Photographer in Rhode Island. I make photographs using a variety of methods with and without a camera, and I teach photography online and in person. I make photo emulsions from scratch, I coat my own photo paper and make cyanotypes too. I am a huge fan of Caffenol ( I helped write the Caffenol Cookbook ) and instead of instant coffee, I roast my own Sumatra Robusta beans. I sell them so you can make your own long lasting, film and print developer called Sumatranol. I also sell silver recovery products.
