this is a postage stamp size silver gelatin tintype.

it was probably made just before world war 1

in order to retouch this, I inverted it to a negative blended the black ( will appear white as a negative ) carefully and slowly then I blended the background and the tears in the emulsion last. then further blending as a postive. the worst is blending large areas, they can look kind of splotchy. but eventually you get a second wind and finish it off .. and adjust the tonality to match the original
