staycation pictures

sometimes my camera goes on vacation without me. that’s my only explanation. and sometimes it is on vacation when im photographing something else.

I know it sounds like it makes no sense but it’s all I’ve got.

I recently excavated some photographs I had on my computer. they were made about a year ago when I was driving around photographing random stuff. well, some of the photographs I made were there in my files but others taken in a sequence of the same site [bracketing] well they were of other places entirely. before that I was photographing at the island of dreams and the same thing happened, film, paper, DV everything.

years ago I photographed this massive tree in front of a strip mall with an 8×10 camera. well, the tree in my photograph had no trunk just leaves. before that gear that I put back on shelf or in camera bag went missing. searched everywhere for it, after a year it just appeared as if it was there the whole time. the camera had film in it I never bought and images on the film that were like a junk store find.

it seems kind of strange but I’ve grown accustom to it and look forward to the next time I am on a staycation and my camera goes on vacation.

I am a Freelance Photographer in Rhode Island. I make photographs using a variety of methods with and without a camera, and I teach photography online and in person. I make photo emulsions from scratch, I coat my own photo paper and make cyanotypes too. I am a huge fan of Caffenol ( I helped write the Caffenol Cookbook ) and instead of instant coffee, I roast my own Sumatra Robusta beans. I sell them so you can make your own long lasting, film and print developer called Sumatranol. I also sell silver recovery products.
