the zone

not sure about you but sometimes I am in the zone. I have a camera or some sort of photo paper and I’m just making something. my mind wanders, I forget where I am, I become untethered and float away,

standing on the sidewalk setting up a camera to stay open for 12 or 6 minutes, driving around finding light to record, discovering something you never noticed and it was just under your nose.

you let your senses take over and allow yourself to become oblivious to the world around you.

someone starts up a conversation with you and brings you back to reality and they ask you what you are doing and you tell them “see that, im making a photograph of it but instead of a snapshot I have to wait 11 more minutes”. they look at you like you are nuts. Two cruisers show up and ask what you are doing because they got a call about somebody with a birdhouse standing on the sidewalk … you say the same thing but this time you can remove the paper negative and show it to the police.

it can be dangerous being in the zone

I am a Freelance Photographer in Rhode Island. I make photographs using a variety of methods with and without a camera, and I teach photography online and in person. I make photo emulsions from scratch, I coat my own photo paper and make cyanotypes too. I am a huge fan of Caffenol ( I helped write the Caffenol Cookbook ) and instead of instant coffee, I roast my own Sumatra Robusta beans. I sell them so you can make your own long lasting, film and print developer called Sumatranol. I also sell silver recovery products.
